Compression that stays on your device
Compress Private is a free tool that shrinks almost any file — images, PDFs, video, audio, documents, code, fonts and archives — right inside your web browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there's nothing to pay for.
Why this exists
Most compression sites work the same way: you upload your file to their server, they squeeze it, and you download the result. That means your private documents, photos and videos travel to a company you don't know, sit on a machine you don't control, and the service has to charge you — or cap you — to cover the cost of all that computing and bandwidth.
This tool takes the opposite approach. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do the compression themselves, on your own computer or phone. So that's exactly what happens here: your file is processed locally and never leaves your device. That single decision makes the tool more private, faster (no waiting for uploads and downloads), and genuinely free, because there's no server bill to pass on to you.
What it can compress
One place for everything, instead of a different website for each file type:
- Images — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, HEIC, TIFF and more, with optional conversion to modern formats.
- PDF — from lightweight rebuilds to deep recompression of scanned, image-heavy documents.
- Video & audio — re-encoded to efficient modern formats, using your device's hardware acceleration where available.
- Documents — Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument and EPUB files slimmed by shrinking the media inside them.
- Code & fonts — lossless minification of JavaScript, CSS, HTML and JSON, and TTF/OTF fonts converted to compact WOFF2.
- Archives — ZIP-family archives repacked tighter, with their contents optimised along the way.
The principles behind it
Private by default
Your files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded, seen, or stored. The only thing recorded is anonymous, aggregate usage — the type and size of files compressed — with no filenames and no content. You can read the specifics on the Privacy page.
Free, with no traps
No account, no watermark, no daily limit, and no paywall waiting after a few files. Free means free.
Honest results
When a file is already well optimised, the tool keeps your original rather than handing back something larger or lower quality. A clear "kept as-is" beats a broken or bloated file.
